Kenneth G. Nelson, 84, of Loves Park passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, in Alden Debes Health Center. Born July 15, 1933, in Rockford, the son of John G. and Annie (Hanstrom) Nelson. U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Married Valerie Kotche on June 30, 1957, in Rockford. Formerly employed by Barber-Colman and retired from Ingersoll Milling Machine. Former trustee and member of Riverside Community Church, SM & SF Club, Swedish Historical Society, and involved in the Öland’s Club. Kenneth was an avid Chicago professional sports fan. He was a selfless man who was wholly devoted to his family. Kenneth loved people and always enjoyed good conversation with his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Valerie; sons, Michael (Amy) Nelson and Kelly Nelson; grandchildren, Erika, Derek, Rachel, Kylie and Raven Nelson; sisters, Violet (Robert) Burden and June (Burt) Rolland; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Ron Kotche. Predeceased by his parents; and beloved brother, John “Clifford” Nelson.
Service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 22, in Riverside Community Church, 6816 North 2nd Street, Machesney Park. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, and also from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
