Kenneth “Ken” E. Barkdoll, Sr., 92, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, with his grandchildren, Christopher and Ranell at his side. Born June 14, 1931, in Sterling, IL, the son of Paul E. and Florence (Gregory) Barkdoll. Graduated from Rock Falls High School where he played basketball. Ken and Mary Jane Moore married on November 28, 1952, in Sterling. Kenneth was a career tool and die maker and carried a strong work ethic throughout his life. Ken was a self-taught auto mechanic. He enjoyed western movies, books, campfires, travel and was still athletic using his exercise bicycle. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a former 16-year member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand, IL, and St. Bridget Catholic Church. Formerly active in the Forest City Square Dancers and was a Scout leader. Survivors include his sons, Ken Barkdoll, Jr., of Rockford, Tim (Kathy) Barkdoll of Loves Park, IL, Patrick (Pamela) Barkdoll of Pecatonica, IL, and Paul (Hiroko) Barkdoll of Japan; grandchildren, Melissa (Dan Knaggs) Goodrich, Michael (Laxmi) Barkdoll, Ranell Barkdoll, Rebecca (Jeremy) Shiflet Barkdoll, Caitlin Barkdoll, Hayley (Christian Orozco) Barkdoll, Jonathan (Theresa) Barkdoll, Amanda (Daniel) Rappa, Jessica (Michael) McCartney, Christopher Barkdoll, and Jason Barkdoll; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Mary Jane on September 28, 2023; and granddaughter, Anna Belle Barkdoll.
Service at 1 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
