Kathleen Sand

Kathleen “Kathy” L. Sand, 79, of Rockford, IL, passed away surrounded by her daughters on Monday, January 8, 2024. Born March 5, 1944, in Rockford, the daughter of Thure and Mary (Schlie) Salgren. Graduated from East High School, Class of 1962. Married Eugene “Gene” H. Sand on March 16, 1963, in Rockford. Employed by the Rockford School District, retiring in 1999. Past member of Blackhawk Athletic Club, and SM&SF Club. Volunteered at Northern Illinois Hospice for many years until Covid arrived and shut everything down. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed fishing, shuffleboard, and taking trips to a casino. Survivors include son, Gerald “Gerry” Sand; twin daughters, Barbara and Brenda (Darla Moriarty) Sand; special friend, Penny White, all of Rockford; brother-in-law, Richard “Rick” Fyhrlund; niece, Kerry (Timothy) Taylor; and nephew. Kevin Fyhrlund. all of Minnesota. Predeceased by her parents; husband; sister, Patricia Turrentine; nephew, Bradley Turrentine; brother-in-law, Gordon “Gordy”; and sister-in-law, Betty Sand, all of Rockford; sister-in-law, Karin Fyhrlund; nieces, Renee and Amy Fyhrlund, all of Minnesota.

As per her request, cremation rites were accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Northern Illinois Hospice.
