Kathleen “Kathie” J. Lewis (Pettis), 88, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026.
Born February 1, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Alva L. and Merna Pettis.
She graduated from West High School in the class of 1956 and from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing in 1959 earning a Registered Nursing Degree.
Kathie married the love of her life, Delos A. Lewis on February 21, 1959.
Her 40-year career began at Rockford Memorial Hospital pediatrics and she later joined Dr. Bruce Peterson at Rockford Clinic.
Kathie was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and doting great-grandmother.
Her hobbies included: sewing, solving crosswords, gardening, and estate sales. She loved to attend all the children and grandchildren’s races, concerts, sporting events and recitals.
Kathie was a member of Riverside Community Church and honorary member of the Forest City Nurse Honor Guard.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Delos; son, Brad of St. Louis, MO; daughter Kristin (John) Guth of Durand, IL; grandchildren: Nick (Erin) Guth, Jake (Ellisa) Guth, Adam (Carolyn) Lewis, Sarah (Alex) Turman, and Eric Lewis; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Ella and Logan Guth, Emma and Jeffrey Lewis, Molly Guth, Vanna Turman; daughters-in-law: Jodie Lewis, Bernadette (Wally) Ciberowski, Michelle Lewis and step-grandchild, Brandon (Makayla) Baltis.
Kathie was preceded in death by her parents; brother Jack Pettis; and her sons: Jeffrey and Mark.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Melanie and Joe Livingston, Rob and Trish Singer for all of their care and support. They also wish to thank the staff at Carbone Cancer Center and Serenity Hospice, especially April and Tracy.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Riverside Community Church. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 AM , Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kathie’s honor may be made to Riverside Community Church or Carpenters Place Outreach Center of Rockford. Delehanty Funeral Home, Loves Park, is assisting the family.
