Karl Robert “Roundy” Johnson, 96, of Rockford passed away peacefully Saturday morning, December 18, 2021, in his home. Born October 13, 1925, in Rockford, the son of Axel Wilhelm and Ingeborg Evelyn (Carlson) Johnson. Graduated from East High School, Class of 1943. Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1943 to 1946. Married Joan A. Binger in 1946; they shared 51 years together. Employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 37 years. After retirement, Karl drove for Todd Transit for 13 years. Member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a Mason for 71 years, twice achieving the honor of Master Mason. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with friends and he loved to take his granddaughters fishing. He was a master gardener and always working on projects. Karl was loved by everyone who had the pleasure to know him. Survivors include his daughter, Judith A. Johnson; son, David K. Johnson; granddaughters, Liz, Rachel (Eddie), Jenny (Edgar), and Katie (Marcus); great-grandchildren, Adrien, Ezekiel, Isaac, and Lena; brothers-in-law, Reese Binger, and Richard Binger; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife.
Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with Masonic service at 7 p.m. Memorials to Masonic Lodge #102.
