Karen Aures, 66, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018. Born December 22, 1951, daughter of Charles and Nickey (Nickel) Merkle. Married Tim Aures on April 4, 1985. Retired from Rockford Public School District. After retirement, Karen volunteered at Rockford Public Schools for several years and became a Health Coach. She was a longtime member and active at Northeast Christian Church for many years. One of her passions was volunteering at Rock House Kids. During her 3+ year battle with pancreatic cancer, Karen started and lead a cancer support group at the church. She also shared her joy and positive attitude with many fellow cancer battlers at OSF’s Cancer Center. Survivors include her husband, Tim; daughter, Liz Aures; sister, Debbie (Phillip) Miller; niece, Carla (and family); nephew, Ryan (and family); plus her special “shadow” dog, Roxy. Predeceased by her parents.
