June Mary Morgensen

June Mary (Cantwell) Morgensen passed away in Rockford, IL, on April 6, 2023. June was born in Denver, CO, on June 12, 1931, to Thomas Frank Cantwell and Hazel (Aultz) Cantwell. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Lyle Morgensen, whom she married in December of 1952, and by her parents and two brothers.

June and Lyle are survived by five children, Kathleen (Kenneth) Lizer, Thomas (Pat) Morgensen, Carole (David) Kenney, Kristine (Mike) Hanley, and Robert (Sallie) Morgensen. She was blessed to have been loved by 13 grandchildren: Julie (Trey), Michael, Erin (Eduardo), Kristen (Rob), Matt (Mary), Megan (Ryan), Mitchell, Kelly (James), Bret (Deven), Eric, Connor, Brian, and Luke. She loved receiving visits and video calls with her 13 great-grandchildren.

June and Lyle loved to travel and were lucky to share those travels with dear friends. They especially loved spending winters in Arizona after retirement. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL, which they called home for most of their married life.

June was a patient, kind, humble and thoughtful person. Her friends were important to her, and she was always there to help others when needed. She was an avid volunteer in her community, including at Zion, Maplecrest Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, Cub Scouts, and more. She loved every dog she met, especially her sweet dachshund, Heidi.

A celebration of June’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1300 Pearl Street, Belvidere, IL, with a visitation from 1 p.m. to service time at church.
