Judith "Judi" Helmer

Judith “Judi” A. Helmer, 77, of Machesney Park, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016, in her home, surrounded by family. Born July 16, 1938, in Rockford, the daughter of Joseph Gagliano and Maria (Nelson) Gagliano Hatfield. Graduated from Harlem High School. Married Wayne D. Helmer in Rockford. Employed by the Harlem Consolidated School District. Judi was an avid collector of anything having to do with bears. She took great pride in her bear cookie jar collection. Judi gave her heart and soul to her family. She found joy and fulfillment in helping whoever needed her. When she wasn’t helping her loved ones, she loved gambling with her husband. Judi truly had a heart of gold and will be forever missed by the ones who loved her most. Survivors include her children, Michelle Berry, Neal Helmer and Nick Helmer; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Rose McCary; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Wayne on May 16, 2016. Her only wish in life was that her family was happy.

Service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in funeral home. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
