Joyce Metcalf

April 11, 1941 — August 6, 2021

Joyce M. (Wallin) Metcalf, 80, of Machesney Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully Friday, August 6, 2021, at home, surrounded by her children.  She was born April 11, 1941, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, the daughter of Elmer S. and Florence A. (Miller) Wallin.  She married her high school sweetheart, Alvin Ray Metcalf on October 17, 1958, in Rockford, Illinois.  They were married for 57 years until his death in 2016.  Joyce was a dedicated homemaker, but she was also the co-owner of the Auburn Street Tap in Rockford, Illinois, with her husband, Alvin.  Joyce also worked as a prep cook for Tawnee’s Cafe, a restaurant owned by her daughters, Lana and Mary, and named after her granddaughter, Tawnee.  A loving and beloved mother and grandmother, she had a huge heart.  She loved her family more than anything else and was always thinking of them.  Her passions included tending a vegetable garden, reading, doing puzzles, and spending time with her family.  A lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs, she was overjoyed to witness the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.  Elvis was her favorite musical artist, and yellow was her favorite color.  She is survived by her children, Joyce “Lana” Metcalf, David Metcalf, and James Metcalf; grandchildren, Tawnee Calhoun, Connor Manring, and Linsey Blitch; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Calhoun; sister, Brenda (James) Marlin; and many nieces and nephews.  Joyce was predeceased by her parents; husband, Alvin; daughter, Mary A. Manning; and her siblings, Lucille, Earl, LolaMae, Elmer (Rose), and Boyce (JoAnn).  Special thanks to North Park Fire Department.

At her request, no services will be held.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Northern Illinois Hospice.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
