Jon A. Novak, 77, of Loves Park passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017. Born July 27, 1940, in Lancaster, WI, the son of John Philip and Zoa (Witzig) Novak. Graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1958. Married Janet B. Truttmann in 1961. Jon was formerly employed as a carpenter. Retired as a teacher from the Harlem School District in 1994. He coached football, basketball and baseball. Jon and his wife, Janet, loved to travel, visiting 48 states, the Panama Canal and Europe. Jon loved the fact that he shared his birthday month, day and year, with the creation of Bugs Bunny. He loved fishing with his buddies at Balsam Lake, playing poker with his friends and never went anywhere without a book. Survivors include his wife, Janet; daughter, Heather Novak; son, Allan (Shawn) Novak; grandchildren, Caroline (James) Lamb, Adam Kohout, Mackenzie Novak and Gannon Novak; sister, Kathryn (Robert) Nielsen; brother-in-law, Dwight (Dianna) Truttmann; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents.
Memorial service at noon Saturday, March 10, 2018, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for the Harlem Scholarship Fund and Heartland Hospice.
