John T. Taylor, Jr., 86, of Machesney Park, was called home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, surrounded by his family, in his residence. Born January 14, 1935, in Springfield, Tennessee, the son of John and Martha (Austin) Taylor. Employed by Barber-Colman for over 35 years. John loved fishing, hunting and trips to Canada. He also enjoyed his coffee group at Doc’s Diner. Survivors include two daughters, Pamela (Richard) Mattis and Wendy Shones, both of Loves Park; four grandchildren, Angela (Tobby) Steadman of Loves Park, Brandon Shones of Machesney Park, Paul (Jennifer) Mattis of South Carolina, and Brian Mattis of Loves Park; two great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Arayah Mattis, both of South Carolina; siblings, Maude Arnold of Indiana, Nora Traughber, Nancy (Ken) Farmer, Rebecca Taylor, Joseph (Shirley) Taylor, James Taylor, and Evie Duncan, all of Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; one brother; and 5 sisters.
Graveside service at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021, in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
