John F. Sundstedt, 95, of Roscoe, IL, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Wesley Willows Health Center. He was born on April 14, 1930, in Rockford, IL, the son of Edward I. and Helen F. (Diebold) Sundstedt. He married Phyllis M. Carroll on July 24, 1954. John was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He was a teacher for 30 years, 25 of those in the Harlem School District. He served as a trustee for the Harlem/Roscoe Fire Department. John loved spending time with his family. He had a love of the North Woods of Wisconsin. During retirement John spent much of his time woodworking and built a good following through his participation in many art shows. He spent many of his winters in Arizona. Survivors include sons, Edward (Tina) Sundstedt, and Frederick (Linda) Sundstedt; daughters, Susan Tauber, Sandra (Casimir) Karczewski, and Barbara (Todd) Bergstrom; grandchildren, Michelle (Dale) Davis, John (Mattie) Karczewski, Sarah Karczewski, Taylor (Preston) Hergert, Max (Elizabeth) Bergstrom, Emily (Matthew) Bogen, Jonathan (Emily) Sundstedt, and Kelly (Nick) Halpin; as well as special friend and companion, Judy Schubert. He was predeceased by his parents; wife of 50 years, Phyllis; and son-in-law, Mike Tauber.
Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Roscoe VFW, 11385 Second Street, Roscoe, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harlem/Roscoe Fire Department. Arrangements made by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane Loves Park, IL.
