John Q. Humphreys, 84, of Loves Park passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019, in Alpine Fireside Health Center. Born August 27, 1934, in Conway, MO, the son of Harold and Lillian (Shields) Humphreys. Married Sally A. Malone. Employed by Roger’s Drywall, retiring in 1992. After retirement, John was a driver for Anderson Nissan, delivered for Top Hat and currently worked for Vince’s Slots. His passion was supporting and helping at First Baptist Church of Machesney Park, where he was Sunday School teacher, Youth Minister and music director active from 1967 to 1989. He was past president for the Harlem Music Boosters where he volunteered for many years. He was a fan of NASCAR and the NASCAR driver Richard Petty. John enjoyed woodworking building dollhouses, roller-skating and pulling his grandchildren around in the wagon behind his tractor. John and Sally were foster parents for 34 years, fostering 369 children. Survivors include his wife, Sally; daughters, JoAnne (Doug) Jury, Tammy (Scott) Johnston, Elizabeth Humphreys and Erica Miller; sons, Steve (Linda), Ben (Tricia) and Taylor Humphreys; daughter-in-law, Monica Humphreys; grandchildren, Stefanie (Dave) Brickey, Sarah (Mickey) Humpula, Samantha, John (Jordan), Robert and Jackie Humphreys, Jared (Ashley) Jury, Grace (Dane) Pennacchi, Hannah (Ryan) Fleming, Christopher and Levi Johnston, Julian Rodriguez, D’Mari Goodwin and Presley; great-grandchildren, Ava, Sofia, Camille and Jude Brickey, Madisyn, Aubrey and Carson Jury and Christina; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; son, Rodney; and great-granddaughter, Kaylee.
Memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 2 p.m. to service time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
