John Robert “Jack” Dahlberg, 85, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, in River Bluff Nursing Home. Born May 23, 1931, in Rockford, the son of Tage V. and Alice H. (Levin) Dahlberg. Graduated from Rockford East High School, Class of 1949. Veteran of the Korean War Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. Married Patricia “Pat” A. Lahre on March 30, 1957, in Rockford. Jack was a serviceman for Guler Appliance and R.J. Cooper. Member of Tabor Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was “volunteer of the year”. Jack served on the board at the Swedish Historical Society. He was a “friend of Bill” for 37 years, walking with many others on their journey toward recovery. Survivors include his son, Bill (Mary Beth) Dahlberg; grandson, Owen Yoseph Dahlberg; granddaughter, Hannah Tenaye Dahlberg; nieces, Nancy (Tom) Shouler and Mary Kay (Paul) Lizer; nephew, Steven (Dawnella) Weaver; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; sister-in-law, LaVonne Weaver; and several cousins. Predeceased by his parents; wife; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Tom Delehanty; and mother-in-law, Laura Doerr. Jack’s family will always remember and would like to thank the nurses and staff at River Bluff Nursing Home and Northern Illinois Hospice for their loving care.
Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017, at Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Tabor Lutheran Church, 2233 12th Ave., Rockford. Service to follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Tabor Lutheran Church.
