John Armstrong

John E. Armstrong, 85, of Rockford passed away Friday, January 5, 2018. Born October 16, 1932, in Leechburg, PA, the son of John B. and Edith E. (Goodbread) Armstrong.  Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.  Married Lois A. Allen on June 17, 1955, in Clinton, IL.  Graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1958.  Employed by Barber-Colman for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.  Member of Forest City Baptist Church, where he served in many areas of ministry.  John loved spending time with his family and friends and was known as Mr. Fix-it.  He also enjoyed boating and waterskiing.  Survivors include his wife, Lois; children, Elaine (Ric) Smith, Philip Armstrong and Ruth (Jeff) Wilcox; grandchildren, Katie (Eric) Larsen, Matt (Sarah) Wilcox, Trisha (Ryan) Palencer, Dustin Wilcox, Melissa, Marcia and Michelle Smith; one great-grandson, Liam; numerous nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by a sister, Shirley Boone; and granddaughter, Megan.  The family wishes to thank the 3rd floor staff at Fairhaven Christian Health Center for their loving care and support.

Memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Private burial in Arlington Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name.
