Joann Magnuson, 85, of Rockford passed away peacefully Friday, December 29, 2017, in Rosewood Care Center. Born November 16, 1932, in Warren County, IL, the daughter of Edward L. and Mary E. (Cavanaugh) McLaughlin. She was raised in Monmouth graduating from Immaculate Conception Grade School and Monmouth High School in 1949. A graduate of Monmouth College earning a BA Degree in Sociology. Later did graduate work at University of Illinois in Library Science. Her career included time at the Rockford Public Library and she retired from the Rockford Public Schools teaching exclusively at Rolling Green Elementary School. Joann financed her college education working part-time at Hays Bake Shop and Warren County Library. In addition to her teaching career she assisted her husband, Royal, in his construction business, Magnuson Construction. She and Royal were married on December 27, 1967, and enjoyed 48 years of a happy and contented marriage. Survivors include her son, Kurt (April) Magnuson; granddaughters, Emily and Katie; brother, John McLaughlin; sister, Grace (Dr. Robert) Jones. Predeceased by her parents; husband; brother, James; and sister, Rosemary.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. Burial in Argyle Scottish Cemetery. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
