Jimmie "Jim" Young

February 11, 1948 — January 8, 2022

Jimmie “Jim” D. Young, 73, of Machesney Park went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 8, 2022.  He passed away peacefully in Swedish American Hospital in Rockford after a long illness.  Jim was born February 11, 1948, in Rockford, the son of Delbert and Velma (Dickerson) Young.  He lived his whole life in the Northern Illinois area, the last 40 years in Machesney Park.  Jim graduated from East High School, Class of 1966.  He married the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Held on June 17, 1967.  Theirs was a true love story, as they met at First Assembly Church and fell in love at an early age, dated all through high school, and were married 54 years.  Jim became a law enforcement officer with the city of Loves Park in 1969, and worked there for 29 years, retiring in 1998.  While serving the great citizens of Loves Park, he rose through the ranks from patrolman, to detective, to detective sergeant, to patrol sergeant.  He worked with many great men and women while at the Loves Park Police Department (LPDD), and some of his greatest memories and adventures happened with them.  He loved being a cop!!!  After his retirement from LPPD, he worked for Newell/Rubbermaid, serving the CEO as his personal chauffeur and security.  Once they were bought out, he then went to work for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, working in the courthouse security department.  He was able to reunite with many of his former colleagues and I am sure many great stories were swapped down at the PSB and Justice Center.  He worked there for 10 years until he retired from law enforcement permanently.  In his final years, he enjoyed time with his family, relaxing at home, fishing down in the Ozarks at his brother-in-law's home, his grandchildren, and his church.  Jim is survived by his wife, Cindy; sons Randy (Janelle) Young and Mike Young; daughter, Stacy Young; grandchildren, Jack, Carter, Dawson, and Tate Young.  He is predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Wilma Young; granddaughter, Madelynn Quinn Young; and several other family members.

Memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 2:30 p.m. to service time.  Cremation rites accorded.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
