Jerry Evans Stringer, 87, of Machesney Park, IL, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his family. Born September 1, 1937, in Pocahontas, AR, the son of Buster and Hazel (Scott) Stringer. Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1956. Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Karolyn Lea Muder on February 15, 1963, in Machesney Park. Employed by Sundstrand for 30 years, and most recently by Bourne & Koch, Todd Transit, and was a driver for Crimson Ridge. Member of Harlem Road Christian Church, Northeast Christian Church and Temple Baptist Church. Jerry was one of the original trustees on the Machesney Park Village Board, where he also ran for Village President. He coached little league at Harlem Community Center. Jerry enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, camping, gardening, and yardwork. Avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, but he watched all sports. Survivors include his wife, Karolyn; children, Jeff Stringer, and Tracy (Jeffrey) Cochran of Gardner, KS; grandchildren, Hannah Cochran, Grace (Brian) Parker, Nathanael Cochran, Katie (Jason) Bernero, and Kara Hoover; great-grandchildren, Ryder Evans Cochran, Jaden Lane Parker, Hailie Jolene Bernero and Giovanni David Bernero; daughter-in-law, Angie Stringer; and sister, Verna Hammond-High; cousin, Phyllis Troyer. Predeceased by his parents; and son, Bradley Stringer.

Funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Riverside Community Church, 6816 North 2nd Street, Machesney Park, with visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
