Jerry Lee Oldham

In Loving Memory - Jerry Lee Oldham, 79, of Loves Park, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. He was born on Friday, January 17, 1947, in Chicago, IL, the son of the late James F. and Alpha L. (Williams) Oldham.

Jerry was married for 63 years to the love of his life, Sue (née, Lunsford) Oldham. Their life together was built on love, devotion, and family. Throughout his life, Jerry’s number one priority was providing for and taking care of the people he loved.

He was a loving father to his three daughters, Donna Oldham, Gerrie Piper, and Cathy Oldham, and a proud grandfather to Brandon (Tara) Page, Christopher Page, Bradley Oldham, and Tessa (Tony Thoppil) Bailey-Thoppil. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Liam and Hailey Oldham.

Jerry was a hardworking man who found joy in the simple things. He loved mowing the lawn, gathering around bonfires with his grandchildren, spending time with Sue, and simply being with his family.

He was also a gifted, self-taught musician. Jerry spent most of his life playing in a band and had a deep love for country music, especially bluegrass. He had a beautiful singing voice and was talented not only at playing music but also at writing his own songs. His daughters especially cherished going to see their dad play music over the years.

One song in particular will forever remind his daughters of him: “I’ll Be There Until the Last Teardrop Falls.” Hearing their dad sing that song is a memory they will carry with them always.

Jerry had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his wit and silly jokes. When asked how he was doing, his daughters could almost always count on his familiar response: “I’m doing all right, but I’ll get over it.”

That was Jerry - quick-witted, playful, and able to bring a smile even in the simplest moments.

He was also a man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. If someone needed him, Jerry was there. His hard work, generosity, and willingness to help others were qualities that defined him and will be remembered by many.

His brother, Danny Oldham, held a very special place in his heart, and they enjoyed playing music together. He brought him much happiness.

In the months before his passing, Jerry’s daughters treasured the moments when he would hold their hands. It often felt as though he wanted to hold on forever - as though he didn’t want to let go, and neither did they.

Those hands that worked so hard, played the guitar, helped others, held his wife’s hand, and held the hands of his children will be remembered forever.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love that lives on through his wife, his daughters, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, his brother, and all those whose lives he touched.

He will be missed beyond words.

A devoted husband. A loving father. A proud grandfather. A cherished brother. A gifted musician. A man with a quick wit and a generous heart. And the man his daughters will always remember holding their hands.

Dad, we weren’t ready to let go. And we never will. Your voice, your music, your jokes, your hands, and your love will stay with us forever. Rest peacefully, Dad. We love you, and we’ll miss you more than words can say. Until we meet again in Paradise.
