Jeffery Dover

April 9, 1960 — August 16, 2017

Jeffery Allan Dover, 57, of Loves Park, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Born April 9, 1960, in Chicago, the son of Robert H. and Juanita M. (Law) Dover.  Survived by sons, Steve (Aimee) and Jeremy; daughters, Rachelle (Shane) and Courtney; sisters, Bonnie and Barb; also survived by stepmother, Linda and the Taylor family; Virginia, Bridget, Melinda, Ronald, Annette, and Neal.  Engaged to Jennie and remembered by previous spouses; Kim and Melissa.  Loved by several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends “and his favorite cousin, Rodney” (DASH).  Our father was a loving man, and was devoted to us children and grandchildren.  Jeff was always there for his family and friends.  He often helped random strangers, as well.  Because of the size of his heart, if others were in need, he was always the first to lend a hand.  Life is a rollercoaster.  Sometimes, you’re up.  Sometimes you’re down.  But our father would give the shirt off of his back, if another was in need.  Dad was an avid musician and loved all things music.  He played several instruments, but his passion was the bass guitar.  At a young age, Jeff began playing in a band, with his father, called “Bob Dover and The Blue Boys”.  Throughout his life, he played in several bands; most notably “Forever Free” and “The Runabouts”.  Jeff was a semi-truck driver, for a large portion of his life.  He was able to see the majority of the United States (through a windshield).  In pursuing his dreams, our father became self-employed.  Later in life, he owned multiple small businesses; most recently L.U.W. Vehicle Services.  Jeff was full of pride.  He believed in doing everything to the best of one’s ability.  He worked for all that he owned, and hated to ask for help.  Everything was earned, nothing was given.  Jeff followed his father’s lead, and never took the time to rest.  However, he always made time for leftovers.  Our Dad was a long-time supporter of the Rockford Speedway, having raced many years in the annual charity Policeman vs. Businessman vs. Fireman Grudge Race.  During the years that us children were young, he passed on the racing, but continued to make a monetary donation to the local police department.  Other miscellaneous hobbies included:  family bike rides, playing catch, watching wrestling, riding horses, riding his motorcycle, collecting music (on all formats); including a diverse and impressive amount of CDs.  Most importantly, we are proud of our father.  The integrity about him forced him to always do right by others.  He fulfilled his duties and obligations, having kept a roof over our heads and food in our bellies.  The well-being of our family was Dad’s top priority.  Yet, his influence has touched so many lives.  We look forward to sharing your memories of our father.  Please join us in celebration of Jeff’s life.
