Jean I. Palombi, 85, of Rockford made the final edit in her life-long handbook on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the Bickford House, Rockford. Her completed works include more character development than drama. “Momola” was a capable, independent, strong-willed woman, with a wry sense of humor (“What a hoot!”), who loved being with her family and friends, filling her with joy. She was a loyal and unselfish friend and confidant who touched many lives, besides being a loving mother, aunt, and cousin. She so enjoyed being creative, cooking and baking, and playing cards. Jean glowed when she could bring family and friends together to celebrate. Born June 27, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of Henry and Irma (Rinaldi) Fioretti. She married Peter J. Palombi in 1956. Retired from Woodward Governor after many years, Jean continued to work from her home. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Predeceased by her parents; brother, Bobby; sister, Dolores Cataldi; and niece, Donna Carter. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Palombi and partner, Dave Kostka; nephew and family, Dan, Cindy and Bryan Cataldi; Palombi nieces and nephews, Randy, Barbara, Carol, Rob, Karen, Elaine, Sue and Tom; many cousins; as well as her very close friends, Gwen, Rose, Diana and Hildegard. Special thanks for their compassionate care goes to friend/caregiver Karin Beck, the 4th floor nurses and CNAs at OSF St. Anthony, Rosewood Care Center, OSF Home Health Care, OSF Palliative/Hospice Care and the staff at the Bickford House, who truly acted like her family.
A celebration memorial mass of Jean’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service.
