James “Bubba” L. Thom, Sr., 66, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in his home. Born February 16, 1958, in Rockford, IL, the son of James and Vivian (Hubble) Thom. Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He married Rhonda L. Morgan on December 9, 1976, in Rockford. Employed by Rockford Wholesale Meats for more than 25 years, retiring in 2018. Avid Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping his neighbors, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Bubba loved his fur babies and was the best brother. Survivors include his wife, Rhonda; children, James (Tiffany) Thom, Jr., and Kim (David) Schiro; grandchildren, Taylor Thom, Alexis Thom, Blaze Schiro, Brenden Thom, and Madelyn Thom; brother, John Thom; sisters, Rebecca (June) Moss, Candie Johnson, Diane (Scott) Gobeck, and Betty (Lon) Russell; loving chihuahuas, Dylan, and Choclate; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Randy Moore. Predeceased by his parents; and brother, James Leroy Thom. The family wishes to thank Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and compassion.
