Loves Park

James “Jim” L. Singleton, 87, of Loves Park, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Medina Nursing Home, after a long illness. He was born on Friday, September 9, 1938, in Lexington, TN, the son of John R. and Betty (Bray) Singleton. He married Harriet Elaine Bree on September 16, 1956, in Corinth, MS.

Jim was a dedicated businessman, U.S. Army Veteran, and community supporter, best known as half-owner of Ecowater in Loves Park, where he spent 43 years in partnership with his dear friend and business partner, Cindy Herschlag, who survives him. Throughout his long career in the water treatment industry, Jim achieved national recognition as a top salesman, winning numerous awards and sharing his knowledge by mentoring and training others across the country.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a man with a generous heart. He often spent his time helping others-especially those in need-by making trips to downtown Rockford, IL, to personally offer money to the homeless. His compassion, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand touched countless lives. Jim also had a very good/crazy sense of humor.

In his younger years, Jim found great joy in racing at the Rockford Speedway, competing in the Police and Businessman's Race, and dirt track racing in Peoria, IL. He was also a lifelong, passionate Green Bay Packers fan, proudly cheering for his team through the years.

Jim is survived by his loving children, Rhonda Trevino of Belvidere, IL, Roxanne Russell of Loves Park, and Jami (Scott) Brandt of Rockton, IL; grandchildren, Katrina Trevino, Kyla (Stephen) Iloh, Deanaka Trevino, Heather (Jeremia) Rychecky, Heidi (Dan) Reppuhn, David (Carolyn) Russell, Taylor Brandt, Tanner Brandt, and Hunter Singleton; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Sue (Larry) James and John (Faye) Singleton of Tennessee; numerous nieces, and nephews; special friends, Darrell and Jeannie Williams; and Ecowater Employees, Dawn Jones and Eric Villanueva. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elaine Singleton; son, James “Rodney” Singleton; and granddaughters, Kendall Trevino and Jalyah Trevino-Thompson.

Jim's family and business partner would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of Medina Nursing Center in Durand, Katie from Heartland Hospice, and the compassionate nurses and CNAs who provided exceptional care and comfort during his final days.

Jim will be remembered for his unwavering generosity, his love for family and friends, his quiet strength, and his bright spirit that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
