James “Jim” E. Leason, 77, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in his home. Born February 24, 1941, in Rockford, the son of Elmer and Bernina (Davis) Leason. Graduated from Harlem High School. Married Donna Lou Severson on September 16, 1961, in Loves Park. Employed by Kerry Ingredients, retiring in 2003. Formerly employed by Smith Oil Corporation. Member of Grace United Methodist Church where he enjoyed the church fellowship. Also, member of Blue Lodge, Masonic Lodge and Shriners Past Potentate 2004. Jim loved camping, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He played a part in starting the Rockford Diabetes Association. Survivors include his daughter, Andrea (Chris) Maggio; grandchildren, Stephen Maggio, Stephanie (Jose) Ayala and Alison Maggio; great-granddaughter, Lily; and sister, Mary Penhallegon. Predeceased by his wife; and son, Bradley.
Service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, in Grace United Methodist Church, 3555 McFarland Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Harlem Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shriners Children’s Hospital and Grace United Methodist Church.
