James Benz

James W. Benz, 93, of Rockford passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021.  Born September 6, 1928, in Gary, IN, the son of David and Caroline (Benardi) Benz.  Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1946.  Veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Army in the 11th airborne paratrooper group.  Married Berneice Bredeson.  Employed by Com Ed for more than 30 years.  Member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, IBEW, and Loves Park VFW.  Longtime little league baseball and football coach.  Avid Chicago Bears fan.  James loved spending time with his family.  Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Berneice; sons, James D. (Margo) Benz and Alan (Carol) Benz; daughter, Connie (Charles) Walker; grandchildren, Timothy (Brett), Christopher, Gregory, Erek, Couri, and Tyler Benz, Audra (Nate) Zipple, Aurora and Tyrone Walker.  Predeceased by his parents; and grandson, Chance Walker.

Private family services will be held with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
