Jack Robert Ramsey
Jack Robert Ramsey, 79, of Loves Park, IL, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born January 25, 1944, in Rockford, IL, the son of Arne Stanley and Dorothy Elizabeth (Johnson) Ramsey. Jack graduated from East High School, Class of 1962, Illinois State University, Class of 1966, and Northern Illinois University, Class of 1972. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime driver's education teacher at Harlem High School shaping the lives of countless men on the football field and wrestling mats. Upon retirement, he coached football at Lutheran High School, served on the Harlem School Board, and volunteered at St. Bridget's Church.
After meeting on a blind date, Jack married the love of his life, Kathy, on October 7, 1967. For 55 years, she was his greatest joy, and his signature phrase was "Yes, dear". Jack was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, mentor, teacher, and coach. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family, especially his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; daughters, Michelle (Jared) Day, and Stephanie (Ernie) Fuhr; granddaughters, Annika Day and Elizabeth Day; brother, Jim (Becky) Ramsey; sister, Carol (Jack) Sheldon; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Jean) Harezlak and Bud (Mary) Harezlak; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his parents; parents-in-law, Walter and Irene Harezlak; and brother-in-law, Tom Harezlak.
The family would like to thank the friends, family and helpers who cared for Jack in his final years for showing him the kindness and compassion he always did for others, especially his high school friends.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. Private inurnment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. A memorial will be determined by the family at a later date.
