Jack L. Hoffman, 96, of Rockford, IL, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, surrounded by family. Born September 14, 1927, in Vicksburg, MI, the son of Benjamin “Ben” and Gertrude (Moyer) Hoffman. Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1945. Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946 for a year and a half. Following his Army service, Jack graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL. He then became a public-school music teacher for 30 years, serving the Chadwick and Harlem School district. Member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for more than 80 years. He was in the choir at Bethany for 75 years, served as the director for 45 years, and directed Chime Choirs for 17 years. Jack met his future wife Ruth Jaeger at Bethany Presbyterian Church, and they were married on June 26, 1964. He was also a member of Rockford Barbershop Chapter since 1962 and served as director for 10 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and especially his fishing trips in Canada. Avid sports fan. He loved the Chicago Cubs for more than 80 years and realized a dream come true when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. When his wife, Ruth, retired, they began traveling to Lake Havasu, AZ, to spend the winter months. While there, he sang in a choir and directed a chime choir. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; sons, Alan (Theresa) Hoffman of Bellevue, NE, and Jeffrey (Linda) Hoffman of Loves Park, IL; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; and brother, Robert Hoffman.
Service at 11 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
