Hugo “Pete” Carl Peterson, 92, of Rockford, passed away suddenly Sunday, November 19, 2017, at home. He was born December 11, 1924, in Rockford, to Signe A. (Gustafson) and Hugo C. Peterson. Pete graduated from Harlem High School in 1943. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving most of his time as a Medic in the Philippines. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. When he returned home, he married Norma J. Garrett on November 16, 1946. They celebrated their 71st anniversary recently. He worked for Rockford Lumber and Fuel from 1946 to1953, Adamson and Johnson Paint from 1953 to 1970. He moved to Plainfield, WI, where he owned a Coast to Coast Hardware Store. He and Norma sold the store in 1979, and moved back to Rockford. He then worked at Lundstrom Peterson until 1983. Finally, he worked at Mautz Paint until his retirement in 1989. Survivors include his wife, Norma; and grandsons, Dustin and Benjamin Peterson. Also survived by Kristin (Monty) Williams, mother of his grandsons; sister-in-law, Marian Strand; brother-in-law, Royce (Joan) Garrett; several nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Mary Ryan. Predeceased by his parents and son, Don.
Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 2, in Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Ave., Loves Park. Cremation rites have been observed. Inurnment at a later date in Arlington Memorial Park, Rockford. Memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or the Rockford Rescue Mission.
