Henry “Hank” R. Kooistra, 67, of Rockford passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019, at his home. Hank was born on September 14, 1951, in Woodstock, Illinois, the son of Jack and Pauline Kooistra. His family moved to Rockford when he was young. He graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1969. He worked briefly as a draftsman for Sundstrand after graduation before taking a job as a truck driver. For the better part of 30 years, he worked for A&B Freight Lines. Hank married Janice Borchardt on September 11, 1976. Hank enjoyed road trips, vacationing on the Gulf Coast, boating and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved animals and could often be found walking his dogs at Rock Cut State Park. He will be remembered most for his fierce love of his family, his tender heart and his sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Jan; daughters, Nicole (Michael) King and Rachel (Todd Koch) Kooistra; grandchildren, Benjamin and Jack King; and brother, Larry (Sandra) Kooistra. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Pauline Kooistra. The family would like to thank their extended family and friends, who have supported and loved them in so many ways during this unexpected loss.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2001 North Alpine Road, Rockford, IL, 61107, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time.
