Helen M. “Granny” Hackbert, 85, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in The Villa at P.A. Peterson. Born February 2, 1931, in Cherry Valley, the daughter of Gilbert and Hazel (Latham) Spencer. Married Ronald E. Hackbert on October 13, 1951, in Rockford. Employed by Fishers Potato Chips. Granny loved playing bingo, listening to country and gospel music and spending time with family. Survivors include her children, Dewayne Hackbert, Roy (Debra) Hackbert, Alice Simpson and Gary Hackbert; grandchildren, Tracy (Ruben) Vidal, Roger (Renee) Dittbenner, Robert (Viola) Dittbenner, Chrystal (Jersey) Hackbert-Ellis, Ryan Hackbert, Dennis Simpson, Jr., and Brandon Simpson; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Luella Moore and Jenean (George) McNabbney. Predeceased by her husband; son, Russell Hackbert; grandson, Reggie Dittbenner; great-granddaughter, Alisha Dittbenner; brothers, Roy Spencer, Walt Spencer and Raymond Spencer; and sister, Roseanne Schultz. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Villa at P.A. Peterson, especially Nick, Elizabeth and Toni.
Service at 1 p.m. Friday, February 10, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time. Dr. Chuck Olson, chaplain at The Villa at P.A. Peterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
