Harold D. Hawes, Jr., 89, of Rockford, IL, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026. He was born on Saturday, March 27, 1937, in Capron, IL, the son of Harold D. and Sylvia (Moon) Hawes, Sr. Harold graduated from North Boone High School, Class of 1955, and attended Cornell College in Iowa. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Sharon R. Turner. He worked his entire career at Barber Coleman/Gleason, where he did a variety of jobs over the years. He especially enjoyed sales, which allowed him to travel extensively. Faith was an important part of his life. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1978. He particularly loved singing in the choir with Sharon. Harold generously gave to others through his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and the Rock River Valley Food Pantry. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, and most of all, time with family. Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and will be deeply missed. Survivors include his daughter, Pam (Ed) Locke; son, Brian (Chris) Hawes; grandchildren, Cristian and Emily Locke, and Payton and Dylan Hawes; sister-in-law, Lois Kretschmer; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Sharon; and siblings, Carl Hawes, Frances Ganzel, Doris Conner, Wanda Keltz, Sara Straw, and James Hawes.
Funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Rock River Valley Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, or Christ United Methodist Church in Rockford, IL.
