Geraldine “Gerry” Theresa Scully Voy, 88, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Mercy Health Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born July 4, 1929, in Ohio, IL, the daughter of George Michael and Mary Gertrude (Drew) Scully. Married Harold J. Voy. Employed as a nurse for more than 36 years at St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford Township and retired from River Bluff Nursing Home. Member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Rockford. Volunteered at St. Bernadette Senior Association. Gerry was the family historian and well known for her sugar cookies. Harold J. Voy and Geraldine T. Scully, met on a blind date on October 29, 1947. Gerry had just begun 3 years of nurses training at St. Anthony Hospital on September 7. Harold had been out of the United States Army since November 1946 and was looking for a blonde nurse to be his future bride. He fell in love with Gerry the moment they met on their blind date. Harold and Gerry became engaged on October 29, 1952, five years to the day of their blind date. While attending a friend’s wedding reception on December 8, 1953, they decided on May 29 the following year, 1954, for their big day. A couple of weeks later on Christmas Day, they announced the wedding date to their parents. Gerry graduated Amboy High School and St. Anthony School of Nursing. She served for 36 1/2 years as a registered nurse at St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford Township and River Bluff Nursing home before retiring. Both Harold and Gerry love to dance, go on mini-trips and enjoy life to the fullest with each other. Survivors include her brother, John Thomas (Gayle) Scully; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband; sister, Dorothy Jane Rowley; and brother, George Raymond Scully. Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 101 North Main Street, Ohio, IL, with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation also from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with Rosary recited at 6:45 p.m.
