George J. Parnello, 74, of Machesney Park, IL, passed on peacefully, Friday, November 1, 2024, at his home. Born May 5, 1950, in Rockford, IL, the son of Nicholas and Sarah (Modica) Parnello. Graduated from Auburn High School, Class of 1968. He married Pam Bauer on May 29, 1971, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, in Loves Park, IL. George started working at the age of 14 with a newspaper route. He worked for a couple local factories, then at the age of 22, he was employed by Gunite, retiring in 2002 after 30 years. After retirement, George started his own lawncare and snow removal business. Active member of St. Bridget Catholic Church for more than 50 years, where he felt honored and proud to be an usher and eucharistic minister. As a member / officer of St. Bridget Knights of Columbus, he volunteered many hours of his time at the church’s social gatherings. He used his mowing skills to groom the church’s fields. He loved tinkering with small engines and had a passion for model railroading. George spent hours with his grandsons, enjoying the model train display in his basement. He loved watching the History Channel, especially the American Pickers. Survivors include his wife, Pam; children, Bethany (Scott) Koslofski, Adam (Anna) Parnello, and Carissa (Mark Johns) Parnello; grandchildren, Benjamin, Evan, Seth (Joslyn), and Frank; great-grandchild, Rose; brother, Nick (Karen Spaataro) Parnello; sister, Sister Margaret Mary; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bella “Pup”. To his best friends ever, Richard, Terry, Jim (Chris), Gary (Vicky), Wally (Lana), our deepest appreciation for the kindness you always gave George. Predeceased by his parents; and favorite dog, Abby. The family wishes to thank the OSF hospice team, especially nurse, Angie, for their care and support.
