George Alfred Hursh, Master Mason, 75, of Loves Park passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born November 17, 1942, in Belvidere, the son of Roy and Ada (Proctor) Hursh. Married Nancy Louise DeVoy on June 8, 1963. Employed by Gunite Corporation for 30 years, retiring at the age of 52. Member of Rockford 102 Masonic lodge since 1980 and was active with the Masonic Youth Groups, including Demolay and Job’s Daughters, receiving a 30-year award for his dedicated service to the Masonic Youth. George loved fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, bowling and watching people. He was a people person. George especially enjoyed being with his girls, family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. His family and friends were everything to him. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Tammy Taylor, Tina Hursh and Kathy (Tim) Schmit; 14 grandchildren, Tina (Tim) Jones, Jamie Taylor, Brandi Taylor, Robert (Katrina) Taylor, Jay Taylor, Thomas (Madaline) Taylor, Bradley Taylor, David (Jessica) Hursh, Jennifer Schmit, Joshua (Olivia) Schmit, Justyna Schmit, Jaysen Schmit, Joseph Schmit and Jacob Schmit; 5 great-grandchildren, David Prince Jr., Lilah Prince, Leo Fluiatt, Bentley Fluiatt and Ayden Fluiatt; 19 great-step-grandchildren; 1 great-great-step-grandchild; sister, Mary Melms; brother, Ralph (Bev) Hursh; sisters-in-law, Shirley DeVoy and Vivian Collins; numerous nieces and nephews; special extended family, Michael DeVoy, Todd DeVoy and Thelma Brown; and special grandchildren, Christina (Nate) Yater and Pamela (Brody) Elvin; special great-grandchildren, Isaiah Whelchel, Bobby Whelchel, Aryah Yater and Bentley Yater. Predeceased by his parents; sons-in-law, Jim Taylor and Brian Houpt; and brothers-in-law, Bud Melms, Leroy DeVoy and Richard DeVoy.
Service at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Flora Cemetery, Kirkland. Visitation also from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the funeral home, with Masonic service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
