Gary Young

Gary A. Young, 70, of Machesney Park passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019, in his home. Born August 24, 1949, in Rockford, IL, the son of Albert G. and Verna June (Smith) Young. Married Laura Stewart on November 18, 1978, in Machesney Park, IL. Employed by Wallem International Belvidere for 9 years and Farm Power for 40 years. Member of Harrison Bible Baptist Church in Harrison, IL, and Tractor Clubs. He enjoyed tractors, especially Simplicity Mowers, fishing, tractor pulls, driving his Farmall 560 D at tractor pulls, attending fairs, especially the Boone County Fair, snowmobiling, sudoku, family Christmases and holidays. Gary loved his family; he would hold his children on his chest until they fell asleep. He loved to watch Gunsmoke. Gary loved taking his dog, Hoss, for drives. He could tell what was wrong with an engine by listening to it. Survivors include his wife, Laura; children, Jason (Kelly), Charles (Becky), Christine (fiancé, Scott) and Christopher Young; grandchildren, Lucas James, Laci Autumn, Noah Albert and Cooper Jason; nieces and nephews, Gene, Jeff, Renee, Cindy, Timothy and Jeremy; best friend, Earl Swanson; good friends, Larry Olson, The Monday Family, Tim Schmerse, Gene Wagner, Dennis Lucky, Doc Hess, Jack Radcliffe, John Henneger and Dave Yakey. Predeceased by his parents; sister, Sharon; and beloved canine companion, Hoss.

Service at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2019, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Burial in Harlem Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019, in the funeral home.
