Gail (Wright) Johnson, 90, of Rockton, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, at Highview in the Woodlands, Rockton. Born as Diana Gail Wright on December 13, 1925, in Rockford, the daughter of Herbert S. and Margaret (Williams) Wright. Graduated from Maine Township High School in Des Plaines, Class of 1944, and graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford, Class of 1947. Lifetime Rockford area resident, except during her high school years. Married Olliver R. Johnson on May 24, 1947, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Loves Park. They were married until Olliver went to be with the Lord on June 5, 1986. Longtime member of First Assembly of God (Rockford First), where she and her husband founded and taught Illuminators Sunday School Class for 17 years. Member of Latham Park School Board of Directors for 6 years. Also a member of St. Anthony Classmates Group, who met monthly since 1947. Employed as head of the habilitation department for developmentally disabled children at Goldie Floberg Center in Rockton for 5 years. Survivors include her children, Kristina (Michael) Clark of Loves Park, Linda (Ed) Hornbeck of Rockton, Gay (Michael) Covell of Castle Rock, CO, Virginia “Ginni” (Steven) Salisbury of Loves Park and Kent (Denise) Johnson of Rockford; grandchildren, Natalie (Gardiner) Rynne, Danielle (David) Schumer, Ryan (Lindsay) Hornbeck, Brienne (Ilya) Filimonov, Krista (Justin) Pierson, Jessica Salisbury, Kelly (Jennifer) Johnson, Kari (Craig) Scott and Katie Johnson; great-grandchildren, Josiah, Keziah, Anna, Micah, Aaron, Megan, Oliver, Nikolai, Elliot and Shannon. Predeceased by her husband, Ollie; grandson, Jason Salisbury; and sisters, Marilyn Aldrich and Peggy Barnstable. Service at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, in Rockford First Church, 5950 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park.
