Lynn Eckberg

February 6, 1935 — March 7, 2026

Rockford

Evelyn “Lynn” Ruth Eckberg, 91, of Rockford, IL, was called home by her savior, Jesus Christ, on March 7, 2026. She died peacefully while in her home at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center following complications of congestive heart failure.

Lynn was born in Moline, IL, on February 6, 1935, to Andrew and Ruth Soderstrom. She graduated from Moline High School, Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing, and attended Augustana College. Lynn married Carl S. Eckberg on February 6, 1960, in Moline, IL. They were married for over 50 years until Carl’s death on November 6, 2010.

Prior to marriage, she worked at Moline Public Hospital and at the Children's Clinic in Rock Island, IL. After marriage, she worked at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL. After moving to the Rockford area in 1962, Lynn chose to be a stay-at-home mom and thoroughly enjoyed her role as wife and mother. In 1978, Lynn returned to work as a nurse with the Winnebago County Health Department and later was employed by Rockford Clinic until she retired in 1996.

After retirement, there were many volunteer opportunities that appealed to Lynn. Among them were the Rockford Rescue Mission, kindergarten “music lady”, R.S.V.P./Lifescape, and Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center where she served on the volunteer board as well as several other opportunities. Throughout her life, she worked with young children, primarily in the churches she attended. She especially enjoyed young children and the elderly - even after she became one!

Lynn's personal Christian faith was very important to her. She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church in Rockford. While there, she was in the Maranatha Adult Community and the Virginia Circle fellowship group. She was formerly an active member of Open Bible Center as well.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Karen) Eckberg; daughters, Brenda (Pat) Jogerst, Karen (Juri) Ammari, and Darla (Jeff) Korleski. She's also survived by her wonderful and “almost perfect” grandchildren, Erik (Katy), Sarah, and Anna Eckberg, Rachel and Aaron (Miranda) Rushing, Caleb and Keith Jogerst, Sameh, Sophia, and Sakari Ammari, Sumner, Ivy, and Greta Korleski. She was also blessed to have 5 amazing great-grandchildren, Phoenix, U’Ziya, and Asher Rushing, Hollis and Hailey Eckberg. She's also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who she adored.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl; her parents; her brothers, Melvin and Harry Soderstrom; and her sister, Esther Liljegren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 North Alpine Road, Rockford, IL. Immediately following the service will be a light reception featuring some of Lynn’s favorite dessert treats.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to Rockford Rescue Mission or to the missions department at First Evangelical Free Church of Rockford.

Lynn wished to express special thanks to the wonderful staff at Fairhaven who cared so deeply for her. We will all miss her and we all share many great memories of our mom, grandma, mor-mor, aunt and friend.
