Ethel M. (Guffey) Nelson, of Roscoe, IL, was born October 4, 1932, in Rockford, IL, and went to Heaven on May 17, 2024. Ethel grew up in Rockford and graduated from East High School in 1950. She married Eric Nelson on October 30, 1951, and they raised 5 children: Joy Bullard-Flynn (Bill), James Nelson (Deborah), Jody Dresser (Dave), John Nelson, and Julie Glavin O'Malley. Ethel worked in Loves Park, IL, as a typesetter at Post Publishers Newspaper until she retired. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and loved doing crossword puzzles. Ethel was the proud and loving grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; surviving her also are her two sisters, Irene Rosik of Rockford, and Ruby Hinds Edman of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Rick; son, John; grandsons, Walt Foley and Brad Nelson; and her son-in-law, Jim Bullard, Sr. We would like to thank OSF Home Health and Hospice, especially Lashunda and Melissa for their compassionate care they gave our mom. We truly appreciate you.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Graveside burial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL.
