Elizabeth “Betty” M. Pennington, 91, of Rockford passed away peacefully Monday, January 16, 2017. Born September 24, 1925, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert and Frances (Hanford) Hough. Graduated from Rockford West High School and received a horticulture certificate from Rock Valley College. Married Everett "Penny" Pennington on May 22, 1943, in Rockford. Employed as a cook by Auburn High School for 10 years. She was a guide at Bok Towers Gardens for many years in Lake Wales, FL. Betty was also a campground host at Rock Cut Park for many years. Member of Christ Lutheran Church and former member at Messiah Lutheran Church. Betty was an active church member wherever she lived. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, camping and spending time with friends. Survivors include her children, Linda Cassaro, Dennis Pennington, Kenneth Pennington and Debra (Jack) Harrision; grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Kyle, Alisha, Sarah, Robert, Amy, Caitlin and Trevor; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband; sister, Doris Belcher; brother, Lynn and Don Hough. The family wishes to thank Christ Lutheran Church and the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home for their loving care.
Service at 11 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017, in Christ Lutheran Church, 425 Riverside Blvd., Belvidere, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park.
