Edward J. “Cowboy” Schlueter, Jr., 73, of Machesney Park entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 9, 2016, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born May 4, 1943, in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Edward and Marie (Kafer) Schlueter, Sr. Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Married Patricia Ottaway on October 15, 1988, in Dubuque, Iowa. Employed by Rockford Clutch for 32 years. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and America Legion. Avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed farming activities and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; sons, Edward “Sonny” (Bobbie) Schlueter, III., of Machesney Park and Brian (Nancy) Schlueter of Dyersville, Iowa; daughters, Sheila (Ted) Owens and Sherry Roach, both of Rockford, and Sue (Ron) Maiers of Holy Cross, Iowa; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Pettit and Lauren (Jason) Wallace, both of Tennessee, Theodore Owens #2 of Rockford, Meagan (Andy) Bishop of Kentucky, E.J. (Meagan) Schlueter, IV, of Indiana, Stephanie Owens of Rockford, Austin Schlueter of Loves Park, Nikki Maiers, Josh Maiers, Damon (Erica) Maiers, Brooke (Greg) Wulfekuhle, Craig Schlueter and Kristen Schlueter, all of Iowa; great-grandchildren, Alyson, Shelbi, Lane, Jaxon, ClaraBelle, Jake, Sara Beth, Boone, Lucas, Hudson and Jack; brothers, Larry, Robert, Kenny (Polly) and Joe Schlueter; sister, Mary (Steve) Morarend; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving four legged family member, Benny. Predeceased by his parents; first wife, Darlene; son, Roger Dale; daughter, Sara Mangrum; sister, Dorothy; two brothers in infancy; and beloved four legged family members, Max, Beemer and Willie.
Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 13, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guttenberg, Iowa, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time.
