Edward Anthony Froning, 94, of Rockton passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018. Born April 15, 1924, in Freeport, the son of Lloyd Edward and Iva (Townsend) Froning. He was a very proud veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1945 when he was wounded in Northern Italy. Married Eleanor M. Cloyd on October 24, 1945, in Rockford. They were married for 61 years. He then married Doris Clayton. Employed by JI Case Company. Member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Very proud 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a state officer in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Life member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and woodworking. Avid sports enthusiast, especially baseball and football. Survivors include his children, Peggy (Roger) Johnson, Jim (Jeri) Froning and Diane (Dr. Ronald) Collins; daughter-in-law, Janice; grandchildren “grand-brats”, Douglas (Lori) Johnson, Michael (Brenda) Froning, Thomas (Rebecca) Froning, David (Holly) Froning, Dana (David) Freedlund, Jennifer Autumn (Franklin) Lewis, Laura Polhill, Michael (Susan) Collins, Mark Collins and Kristin (Harry) Curtis; 15 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by both wives; son, Edward “Skip” Froning, Jr.; great-grandson, Steven Johnson; and siblings, Robert, Donald and Marie. Special thanks to Mercy Comfort Care Unit.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, in St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd., South Beloit. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with Rosary recited at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude’s or Special Olympics.
