In Loving Memory -
Edward James Daehne
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Eddie, 78, of Rockford, IL. A steady and faithful man who left us peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 11:11 p.m. A true original, he was the soul of every celebration - always ready with a joke he read in Reader's Digest, a story he heard from Backyard Grill & Bar, or a game of Dirty Clubs with his family and friends.
Born October 4, 1946, to Edward and Lillian (Veverka) Daehne and raised on a welcoming bit of farmland in Phillips, WI. Married to his high school sweetheart, Sandy Moquin on January 25, 1969, in the heart of the quaint town of Phillips, WI. In 1966 Barber-Colman recruited Ed from Wausau Technical Institute and transferred him down to the Rockford, IL, area. Together, Ed and Sandy made Machesney Park their home, where they planted lasting roots and grew a legacy of love - one that flourished as their children remained close, building families of their own nearby.
A proud U.S. Veteran, he served with honor in the Vietnam Conflict. His loyalty to his country was matched only by his love for the Green Bay Packers. A steadfast member of the Rockford Moose Lodge #163, Loves Park VFW Post 9759, and longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church. Whether cheering on his team or sharing laughs with friends and family, he brought joy to every room he entered.
With Ed, the door was always open. No call needed, just pull into the drive, and chances are he was out on the deck, paper in one hand, with the comforting sounds of the Cubs game playing in the background - simple moments he turned into a quiet ritual. He'd be ready with a smile and a seat, eager to catch up and hear all about your day. He had a way of making everyone feel at home, like time slowed down a little when you were with him. A five-minute visit or an afternoon that turned into dinner, Ed made it feel like you belonged. No matter where he went, vacationing in Arizona or traveling to baseball diamonds across the country, Ed made lasting friendships with everyone he met and left unforgettable memories in all of our hearts.
He is survived by wife, Sandy; children Nicole Gruner, Chad (Michelle) Daehne, and Jeremy Daehne; grandchildren, Kahli (Scott) Houdek, Garrett Daehne, Nolan Gruner, Aiden Gruner, and Kira Daehne; great-granddaughter, Julianne Houdek; sister, Peggy (Jim) Lake; nieces, Chandra (Jim) Vitale and Heather (Lance) Wanger; nephew, Nathan (Merissa) Moquin; and many special friends. Predeceased by his parents and loved ones, Don and Darlene Moquin.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Ave., Loves Park, IL. All are welcome to join a visitation and gathering one hour prior. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name at a later date.
