Edmund “Ed or Butch” H. VanVleet, 81, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Wednesday, June 28, 1944, in Rockford, IL, the son of Elmer and Ina (Wickler) VanVleet. He married Faye LeHew on October 16, 1964, in New Milford, IL.
Ed was employed for many years as a large-header operator for Rockford Products and Elco. He later opened Fastener Training & Technology teaching the next generation.
Ed was a former campground host at Lake Summerset, where his love for the outdoors included fishing, camping, boating, and riding around on his golf cart with his beloved Sara. He enjoyed attending car shows and showing off his pride and joy, his 1953 Ford truck that his sons built. Ed loved his children and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye; sons, Rob (Diane) VanVleet and Tim (Suzan) VanVleet; daughters, Lori (Rick Twine) Sutton and Susan (Joe) Danforth; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Sal. Special thanks to his niece health navigator Stacy, Dr P. and the staff at OSF Medical Center, OSF Cancer Center, and OSF Hospice.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Big Mound Cemetery, 12180 East Big Mound Road, Davis Junction, IL. Visitation will also be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2025, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
