Eddie R. Long

Eddie “Ed” R. Long, 90, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Wednesday, April 8, 1936, in Palestine, AR, the son of Hubert and Dovie (Seawell) Long. He married Wanda Milam on November 21, 1953, in Dubuque, IA. Ed was employed by Allied Tool & Die before his retirement. Member of North Park Church of Christ. Ed loved fishing, gardening, and growing corn to give away. He was a great spiritual leader conducting his own Bible studies. Ed was very much a people person and could relief a tense situation with his wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Long; children, Cyndi (DeJay) Heath, Sid (Rhonda) Long and Sue Embry; grandchildren; Jared (Venus) Hutchings, Daniel (Kristi) Hutchings, Nathan Hutchings, Wes (Jodi) Long, Caysie (Chad) Kulpa, and Annda Beardan; and eight-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; brother, Rayford Long; and grandson, Joshua Embry.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at North Park Church of Christ, 7620 Elm Ave., Machesney Park, with a memorial visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Helping Hands Pantry.
