Douglas “Doug” Roger Street, 92, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Symphony Northwoods Care Center, Belvidere, IL. He was born and raised on a farm on Monday, November 13, 1933, near Hesper, IA, the son of Leroy Oscar and Kelse Lueda (Brenna) Street. Doug graduated from Mabel High School in Mabel, MN. He was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1953 to 1955, where he served as a medical supply clerk in Hawaii. Doug married Barbara Marie Walhus on March 31, 1956, in Spring Grove, MN. To this union, they had two daughters, Roxane and Greta. The family lived near Mabel, MN, where Doug worked in carpentry and farming. They later moved to Rockford, IL, in June of 1963, where Doug worked as a machinist for Woodward Governor for 31 years, retiring in December of 1994. He also did supplemental carpentry work in the Rockford area. After retiring, he continued to work, most notably for Bergstrom’s for 10 years. Doug was an active member of the former Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where he served in many capacities. He had various hobbies over the years: shooting, fishing, and old “hit and miss” engines. Doug truly loved the Rock Run Long Rifles Club and Old Northwest Company, where he would dress in period attire, camp, shoot black powder rifles, throw the tomahawk and knives, and enjoy the company of friends at the club or rendezvous! He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. Doug was a kind and gentle man; he loved to talk and made friends easily. He was always helpful, a hard worker, and an excellent role model for others. Doug had a good sense humor and loved playful tricks. He was good and decent man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his daughters, Roxane (John) Devereueawax and Greta (John) Henry; grandchildren, Lacey (Darron Sims) Sinclair, Jesse Sinclair, Brenna (Jason) Wade, and John (Kandi) Henry; great-grandchildren, Quincy Cook, Darron Lamar Sims II, Major Sims, Zayvier Sinclair, Justice Sinclair, Conrad Wade, and Malcolm Wade; great-great-granddaughter, Aviah Cook; sisters-in-law, Joyce Street and Marcia Street; nephews, Arden Street and Brian (Jeanne) Street. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Barbara Street; brothers, Robert Street and Harold Street; and great-great-granddaughter, Rose Cook.
Memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL, with memorial visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. Inurnment at a later date in Hesper Community Cemetery, Hesper, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rock Run Long Rifle Club.
