Dorris A. Collins
Dorris A. Collins, 86, of Rockford, IL, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Born on November 16, 1936, to Edgar Lee and Pearl (Bryant) Alexander in the midst of the Great Smokey Mountains in the Sweetwater Valley of Tennessee. Her people were of great faith, quick wit, and tremendous endurance. Dorris followed her husband to Rockford where she lived for the past 66 years. She was widowed in 1965. Our beloved mother and loyal friend walked in faith and lived by her motto; “There are ten little two lettered words that are very important to me; if it is to be, it is up to me!” She singlehandedly raised two daughters and loved and cherished her only granddaughter, Alissa, and her husband, Colin. Dorris was a bright and loving person who expressed her love to her family by her unselfish actions and service. She had a very special relationship with her brother, Jerry. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra (Bill) Tibbett, and Peggy (Dave) Daughenbaugh; granddaughter, Alissa (Colin) Daughenbaugh-Quinlan; siblings, Barbara (Ralph) Teague, Brenda Deal, Jim (Connie) Alexander, and Doug (Verna) Alexander; many nieces and nephews as well as grand-pets, Ella, Willow, Juniper, Beldelia Butterbuns, and Benjamin NoNo. Predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Pearl Alexander; husband, James H. Collins; brothers, Charles and Jerry Alexander; and brother-in-law, Charles Deal. Her honesty, wit, and love will be temporarily missed until we meet again. Rest assured this bright and wonderful spirit loved and was much loved.
Private family services will be held with burial in Scottish Argyle Cemetery, Caledonia, IL. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
