Dorothy Wherley

Dorothy Marie Wherley, 90, of Loves Park, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, surrounded by her four children. She was born August 29, 1926, in Rockford, the daughter of Fred L. and Marie K. (Sherman) Barkley. Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1944. Married Reuben G. Wherley, Jr. on July 5, 1958, in Rockford. Employed by Woodward Governor for 14 years. Member of The ’44 Gals Club, Joy View Homemakers, The Help One Another Circle and Harmony Grange #957, serving as Secretary for 65 years. She was known as a kind and nurturing woman that deeply loved her family, gardening and animals. Survivors include children, Judy (Bob Roehm) Wherley, Brian (Rori) Wherley, Kurt (Jenny) Wherley, and Lynette Wherley; beloved grandchildren, Ava and Evan; and special cat, Penny. Predeceased by her husband; sister, Lola and brother-in-law, Eugene H. Fordtran.

Services at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 17, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial in Roscoe Cemetery.
