Dorothy O'Brien

March 25, 1920 — December 23, 2017

Dorothy E. O'Brien, 97, of Durand passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, in Medina Manor Nursing Center. Born March 25, 1920, in Sabula, IA, the oldest child of Benjamin and Hariette (Kempter) Stanek.  Graduated from Sabula High School.  Attended nurses training at Rockford Memorial Hospital.  There she met Shirley Robert “Shing” O’Brien, who was helping the pharmacist.  They were married on August 1, 1938, in Sabula and moved to Hatfield, WI.  They moved around for his job from Illinois, Indiana, El Paso, TX, and back to Rockford, where they retired.  Member of Rockton United Methodist Church.  Survivors include daughters, Terry (Duane) Keller of Pecatonica and Penny Larson of Wausau, WI; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by her husband of almost 64 years on July 25, 2002; 3 brothers; 1 sister.

Service at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 28, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. to service time. Private burial in Neillsville (WI) City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
