Doris Ann (Dolan) Delaporte, 84, of Mahomet passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, in her home. Born May 2, 1934, in Tomahawk, WI, the daughter of Louis and Olga (Eik) Dolan. Married Edward “Ed” Charles Delaporte, III, on June 9, 1956, in Pecatonica. Doris earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from NIU and a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities from Rockford College. While her husband, Ed, was stationed in Germany with the army, Doris taught second grade at the Military Dependent School in Bad Kissingen, Germany. She taught kindergarten through third grades for a combined 40 years at Welsh, Barbour, Cherry Valley, Hallstrom, Rolling Green, and White Swan elementary schools. Doris' life was characterized by a kind-hearted, gentle patience, both in her classroom and with her family. She lived for others, always making those around her, no matter how young, know that she valued their thoughts and ideas. She was the heart of her family, and her legacy of joy and caring will live on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Edward IV (Karen) Delaporte, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Strey and Robert (Maggie) Delaporte; grandchildren, Sarah (Paul) Holmes, Edward V (Joanna) Delaporte, Benjamin Delaporte, Elise Delaporte, Kristin (Brad Fischer) Strey, Colleen (Josiah) Rittmeyer, Joseph Delaporte and Anna Delaporte; great-grandchildren, Rachelle, Paul II, Josiah, Elizabetta and Elisha Holmes, Edward VI, Doris and William Delaporte, Jimmy Fischer and Ella and Jake Rittmeyer; sisters, Marna Lovett, Mary Carlson and Sally Goodwill. Predeceased by her husband, Edward; parents, Olga and Louis Dolan; and brothers, William, Louis and Benjamin Dolan.
Memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time. Inurnment in Pecatonica Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family to be used to purchase Doris’ favorite books by Dr. Seuss for the Rockford Public Schools.
