Donald O. Swanson, 91, of Rockford passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. Born December 25, 1926, in Rockford, the son of Oscar John and Hulda (Swanson) Swanson. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Married Margaret Tomasino on May 27, 1950, in Rockford. Employed as a cabinet maker by Gannon, Peerless and Ello. Donald enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He loved nature, especially birds. At a young age, Donald took on the responsibility of working on the family farm. He also loved history, reminiscing about the past, and taking his grandkids to the park. Survivors include wife, Margaret; children, Virginia (Steve) Hanson, Donald (Linda) Swanson, Patti (Tim) Swanson-Bergren, John (Teri) Swanson; grandchildren, Nicholas Hanson, Matthew (Courtney) Hanson, Kyle (Amanda) Swanson, Kurt Swanson, Nikki Bergren, Ashley Bergren, Andrew (Selena) Bergren, Nicholas Swanson, Olivia Swanson and Aidan Swanson; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Parker, Salvador, Eli, Reagan and Isabelle; sister, Marilyn Calvagna; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother, Roy. Special thanks to OSF Dr. Tomacruz, OSF Hospice, especially Elizabeth, Marqwell, Deacon Pete, Karen, Tameka, Michelle, and all other staff. A special thank you to Bob and Garnett for their constant kindness, care and assistance in helping out around the house. They were their “Guardian Angels!”
Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
